Description

This course will explore how both the Irish and global economy work, with a special focus on the 2008 Crash it’s consequences and the impact on Ireland. Together with your tutor, you’ll look at fascinating historical examples and join in discussions that bring the subject to life. From the earliest banking systems to the rise of shares and government bonds, and from major crashes of the past century to the role of wars and conflicts in shaping today’s financial systems, you’ll see how history and economics are deeply connected. This course is ideal for anyone curious about how the economy works — from lifelong learners and history enthusiasts to those who follow current affairs and simply want to better understand the world around them.

About your tutor: Paul Molloy

Paul Molloy is a chartered tax adviser (CTA) with his own tax consultancy catering for the SME market. He has a BComm. degree from UCD and a Masters in Accounting from the Smurfit Business School. He trained with Deloitte and Mazars. Paul teaches two courses in ICD Business School; Finance and Taxation and has written a book titled “A Politicians Guide to Finance and Money” which is due for release in Spring 2026.
